What You’ll Need to Make These Chocolate Apple Rings
- Two large, crisp apples (Honeycrisp is my personal favorite)
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 100 grams of milk or dark chocolate
- Toppings of your choice (I chose crushed peanuts, shredded unsweetened coconut, pretzels, and freeze-dried strawberries)
Selecting the Perfect Apples
Choosing the right apples is the first step to crafting perfect Chocolate Apple Rings. While this recipe can work with various apple varieties, selecting the ideal apples can make a significant difference in taste and texture. Personally, I have a soft spot for Honeycrisp apples for their perfect balance of sweetness and crispness. However, you can also opt for other varieties like Granny Smith for a tart contrast or Gala for a milder sweetness. When picking your apples, aim for ones that are firm and unblemished, so that they’ll hold up well during the slicing and dipping process. Whichever apple you choose, remember that the key lies in selecting the one that tantalizes your taste buds the most, as it’ll be the star of your creation.
Keeping Apples Fresh and Vibrant: The Anti-Browning Technique
To maintain the appealing freshness of your apple rings, employ this simple yet effective anti-browning method. Submerge the apple rings in a bowl of cold water infused with a tablespoon of salt, allowing them to soak for approximately two minutes. This process not only preserves their natural color but also imparts a crispness to the apples. Once the brief soak is complete, carefully lift the apple rings from the water and gently blot them dry with a clean dish towel.
These Chocolate Apple Rings are not only a delicious treat but also a creative and healthy way to enjoy a classic snack. Whether you’re making them for yourself, your family, or a gathering of friends, they are sure to impress. So, grab your favorite toppings, put on your creative hat, and enjoy the magic of these sweet, crispy, and utterly delicious treats!

kcal1 Chocolate Apple Ring for each serving
Ingredients
2 large, crisp apples (Honeycrisp is my personal favorite)
1 tablespoon of salt
100 grams of milk or dark chocolate
3 tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut
3 tablespoons crushed peanuts
3 tablespoons roughly chopped salted pretzels
1 tablespoon freeze dried strawberries
white and mild chocolate for drizzling
Directions
- Using a core removal tool, carefully remove the cores from both apples.
- Once the cores are removed, slice the apples into rings, each about 1/2 inch thick. You should get approximately five rings from each apple.
- Place the apple rings in a bowl of cold water mixed with 1 tablespoon of salt. Allow them to soak for about 2 minutes. After soaking, remove the apple rings from the water and gently pat them dry with a clean dish towel.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 100 grams of your choice of chocolate (milk or dark) until it’s smooth and velvety. You can also melt the chocolate using a double boiler if you prefer.
- Now comes the fun part! Using a teaspoon, generously spread the melted chocolate on one side of each apple ring. It’s essential to work quickly before the chocolate begins to harden.
- For my batch, I went with three mouthwatering options:
Crushed peanuts drizzled with even more melted chocolate.
Shredded unsweetened coconut, also drizzled with chocolate.
Pretzels and freeze-dried strawberries drizzled with white chocolate. - Allow your chocolate apple rings to set on a parchment-lined tray or plate. Place them in the refrigerator. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Once the chocolate has hardened, they are ready to serve!
